How to prepare for a same-day move — step by step
Step 1: Call your removalist immediately

Step 2: Identify your absolute priorities
You probably won’t move everything today. Make a list right now: bed, clothes for the next week, personal documents (passport, lease, insurance, medications), laptop and chargers, and any high-value items. Everything else is secondary. Pack and move the essentials first.
Step 3: Start packing the essentials in any available containers
Use whatever is available — suitcases, bags, laundry baskets, cardboard boxes from the garage. Priority items don’t need to be perfectly packed; they need to be ready to move. For fragile items, use towels, clothing, and bedding as wrapping material if you don’t have bubble wrap.
Step 4: Notify your new property manager or landlord
If you’re moving into a rental, notify the property manager that you’re arriving today and confirm access. For an apartment, confirm whether the freight lift is available and whether you need to notify the building manager. Getting access details confirmed before the crew arrives saves significant time.
Step 5: Prepare the truck access at both properties
Make sure parking is available near the front door at both the origin and destination. Move any cars that are blocking the driveway. If there’s a gate code or security access, have it ready to give to the crew.
Step 6: Be ready when the crew arrives
Every minute the crew spends waiting for you to finish packing costs money. When the crew arrives, the must-move items should be packed and accessible near the front door. Discuss the plan immediately — which items are coming today, what’s the priority order, and what’s being left behind.

If you don’t have time to move everything today, pack in this priority order:
- Tier 1 — must go today: personal documents (passport, Medicare card, tenancy agreement, insurance papers, medications prescription list), medications, wallet and keys, phone and charger, laptop and charger, glasses or contact lens supplies, children’s essentials (formula, nappies, school bag, favourite comfort item), pet supplies and pet (carrier, food, vet records)

- Garbage bags — for pillows, duvets, soft toys, and clothing that doesn’t need to be wrinkle-free.
- Towels and clothing as padding — wrap breakables (glasses, ornaments, electronics) in towels, jumpers, and clothing. It’s not ideal but it works in an emergency.
- Reusable shopping bags — ideal for kitchen items, small appliances, and pantry goods.
What not to do on a same-day move
- Don’t try to do everything at once — focus on the priority tiers and accept that not everything will move today. A partial move done well is better than a chaotic full move done badly.
- Don’t move without confirming access at the new property — arriving at the new address to find you don’t have a key is a very avoidable problem. Confirm access before the crew loads the truck.
- Don’t skip the truck access check — make sure the truck can park within a reasonable distance of both properties before the crew arrives.

After the same-day move — what to sort next
Once you’re at the new address and the essentials are in, the immediate pressure is off. Here’s what to deal with in the next 24–48 hours:
- Collect or arrange collection of remaining items from the old address
- Notify utility providers of your new address
- Update your address with your bank, Medicare, electoral roll, and other essential accounts
- Complete the incoming condition report for the new property within the required timeframe
- Arrange bond clean at the vacated property (this can usually be booked for the next day)

Yes, in many cases. Our availability for same-day bookings depends on what else is scheduled that day, but we often have capacity mid-week and occasionally on weekends. Call (07) 3472 7573 as early as possible — morning calls have the best chance of securing a same-day crew.
Is a same-day move more expensive?
Our standard hourly rate applies to same-day moves — $195/hr for 2 movers, $14 fuel surcharge, 2-hour minimum. There is no same-day surcharge. However, if we need to reschedule an existing booking to accommodate your urgent request, that is not something we can do — we can only offer slots that are genuinely available.
What if I can’t pack everything before the crew arrives?
The crew will assist with loose items and anything that needs wrapping. However, time spent waiting for packing to be completed is billable time. The fastest and cheapest same-day move is one where the owner has done as much preparation as possible before the crew arrives — even rough packing into bags and baskets is faster than starting from nothing.
Can I leave some belongings and come back for them later?
Yes. For a same-day urgent move, taking only the essentials now and returning for the rest later (with a second booking) is a completely reasonable approach. We can note the items left behind and give priority to the must-haves on day one.
What documentation do I need for a same-day move into a rental?
You’ll need your signed tenancy agreement and condition report from the property manager, proof of identity, and your entry key or access code. For an apartment, you’ll also need any fob or access card issued by the building manager. Have these ready before moving day to avoid delays at the new address.
What if something breaks during a rushed move?
Our crew takes the same care on a same-day move as on any other move. However, items that are not properly packed (for example, loose fragile items or unsecured electronics) carry a higher risk of damage. Do what you can to protect fragile items with clothing or towels, and communicate to the crew which items are fragile.
Do you charge extra for moving after hours on a same-day emergency?
Saturday moves attract a small surcharge. Public holiday availability should be confirmed when you call. There is no late-in-the-day surcharge for moves that start in the afternoon — our rate is the same regardless of start time within normal hours.
